Hey ya’ll! This is
Mike. I just wanted to thank you for hanging out! I also want to thank
each and every one of you who have supported us on our journey through
the musical world.
I am a believer in the human spirit, and first and foremost in life. I
believe each and every one of us has the ability to attain greatness in
whatever we choose. One of my favorite quotes is from Paul Orbeson,
“Life is our gift from God, What we do with that life is our gift to
God.” Whatever you want from life, go for it! Believe me it works!
There’s more than one person who told me I’d never make it in music but
I’m still at it every day, thanks to you!
My biggest influence musically is Johnny Cash. Johnny embodied what the
human spirit is and will always be. Johnny had love, compassion,
determination, and a willingness to stand for what he believed in. I
have been asked several times, “What do you play? Country or Rock?” I
heard it put best with Johnny Cash, that he was country with a
Rock-N-Roll attitude.
My other loves in music are The Dead, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, The
Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers, David Allan Coe, Tom Petty, Bob
Marley, Kris Kristofferson, Ben Harper, Buffet, The Rolling Stones, Bob
Dylan, John Prine, String Cheese, Lynnard Skynnard, all three Hanks,
Buck Owens, Dwight Yokam, Ryan Adams, Allan Jackson, Bob Segar, and the
list goes on forever…
Friends and family are the corner stone of my life. I am such a blessed
person to have the friends and family that I do. My mom is the strongest
person I know and one of the best influences. And, I owe my dad so much
for the well-deserved ass kicking's when I was a punk kid! Also, my
little sister’s that I love and know they love me very much! And, my
little buddy Bryce, my nephew, also has been a motivating factor for
changing my life to be a great person. And, all of my great friends who
have been there for me, a list too large to even state and be fair. I
love you all!
The Michael Martin Band is no set band, more of a rotating band of
outlaws that are my best friends in life. Joe Hladek, Cam Dryer, Scotty
Martin, and Travis Hood are some of the regulars who I’ve been blessed
enough to have accompanied me in my early days. Several of us are also
in Folly Moon, another band I play in. The Michael Martin Band is also
comprised of all the late niters, the beer guzzlers, bartenders, other
cool bands I jammed with, and the good people who have touched us.
If I could be anywhere right now I would be sitting on Folly Beach, SC,
or in Negril, Jamaica. I’ve always been a child of the water and the
beach is where I’m at home. Where the good Lord smiles that bright sun
and waves crash in. Strumming my old six string saying, “Thank you Lord
for another day.”
